What will LEAP support?

LEAP has been designed to contribute to the growth, resiliency, and vibrancy of our community through the financial support of non-profit organizations in Kawartha Lakes. It will support projects that…

  • Support and promote Community Economic Development in Kawartha Lakes

  • Support a NFP in developing and delivering their strategic priorities locally

  • Support the development of partnerships that build capacity to deliver services in the local community

  • Support the development of opportunities for a healthy, active lifestyle and contribute to a positive quality of life in this region

The Purpose of LEAP

This 2-year initiative aims to support NFPs in the development of programs that support the execution of their priorities in Kawartha Lakes. The program will support the development of activities that promote healthy, active living that contribute to the quality of life in this region, promote tourism to the region, and result in job creation and aid in the achievement of NFP strategic goals.

  • Locally based support for NFPs

  • Empowering projects through local and regional economic development

  • Access to Capital, Talent, Resources and Business Advisory services

  • Projects that are incremental, scalable and results driven

Available Funding

We will accept applications for projects between $5,000 and $20,000* for a total distribution amount of $100,000 per year, based on a 2-year pilot project.

Eligible Costs must relate directly to the project activities. Capital and non-capital costs are eligible, along with costs relating to pivoting in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

*Due to the number of applications received and the limited funds available, funding awarded may be smaller than the amount requested.

You are encouraged to submit a draft proposal to the KLCFDC Team before you complete your application to receive feedback before your final submission. 

Submissions must follow the format of the application form and use the budget form provided. Pages should be numbered. Submissions are to be sent by e-mail to vkillen@klcfdc.com

Eligibility Information

What is an Eligible Project?

We are looking to fund projects that will contribute to the growth, resiliency, and vibrancy of the community in line with current economic conditions.

Ideal projects are… 

  • Incremental in nature (incremental is defined as a new initiative, enhance existing activities, in addition to existing activities). 

  • In alignment with the strategic priorities of Invest Kawartha 

  • Not dependent on funding from Invest Kawartha (You should guarantee that the funding will not create a dependency on Invest Kawartha)

  • Will not produce market disruption 

Who is an Eligible Recipient?

The LEAP program supports not-for-profit community organizations in Kawartha Lakes and Mississauga’s of Scugog Island First Nation.

Ineligible recipients include… 

  • Municipalities 

  • For-profit Businesses 

  • Individuals

Invest Kawartha (formerly known as the Kawartha Lakes BCDC) was formed to foster the establishment, expansion, and stabilization of small and medium sized businesses in the community and supporting local NFPs by: 

  1. Providing resources for the planning and development as well as the execution of key community economic development strategies and tactics pertaining to local, regional, and national activities that will serve the future economic prosperity of Kawartha Lakes 

  2. Providing entrepreneurial, commercial, financial, marketing, and other business advice and counselling to NFPs and SMEs 

  3. Providing assistance in the development and diversification of the local economy by assisting entrepreneurs to create new businesses, or existing businesses to stabilize or expand in the community, through the provision of financial assistance in the form of loans, loan guarantees and equity investments 

  4. Supporting employment growth and fostering the growth of viable and continuing employment opportunities in the Kawartha Lakes and the greater region
